News Death Notice

MADLINGER, Vernon C. age 87 of Dayton, passed away Thursday September 22, 2011 in the Miami Valley Hospital surrounded by family. He was born April 26, 1924 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Antoinette (Nettie) (Bensman) Madlinger. He was a graduate of Bath High School in Osborn, OH in 1943. Vernon farmed many years and later retired from St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Gem City Elevator Company. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Church, AFTA Fishing Club and enjoyed gardening, wintering in Florida and fishing at Watts Bar Tennessee, Lake Nipissing, Canada and Indian Lake, Ohio. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Esterline; and brothers-in-law, John C. Schneider and Jack Esterline. Vernon is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (Henry) Madlinger; two daughters, Valerie K. (David) Drinnon of Huber Heights; Sheryl M. (Kevin) Crowley of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Joshua D. Drinnon, Bryan P. Crowley, Meaghan G. Crowley; Patrick C. Crowley; sister, Joann C. Schneider of Centerville, OH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Sunday September 25, 2011 from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton- Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday September 26, 2011 in the Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 654 N. Maple Ave., Fairborn, Father Charles Lang Celebrant. Interment to follow in the Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to the charity of donor’s choice.
