Theresa Rose Gadway

 

WITHERBEE, N.Y. — Theresa Rose Gadway, age 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., July 8, 1927, the daughter of William and Doris (Laddison) Nephew.

Theresa was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; her life revolved around her family. She loved to cook and clean and make home always a wonderful place to come back to. She especially loved our family gatherings.

Theresa loved baseball, always rooting for the Boston Red Sox, but she especially loved watching her grandson, Kevin Gadway, play high school baseball.

Theresa married the love of her life, Arthur M. Gadway, June 5, 1946.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Gadway and his wife Debbie of Mineville, N.Y., Linda DuRoss and her husband Ernie of Port Henry, N.Y., Nancy LaMour and her husband Robert of Witherbee, N.Y., and Kevin Gadway and his wife Marlene of Crown Point, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Stephen Gadway and fiancée Melissa Demrest, Eric Gadway and fiancée Amy Jordan, Erin and Donnie Hachey, Amy and Lee Garvey, Julie and Thomas Ferguson, Sara Cooper, Heather and Nathan Heald, Joella Cooper and Kevin Gadway; her great-grandchildren, Alexa Cyphers, Eric Gadway, Cora Jordan, Matthew and Zachary Demrest, Leah Garvey and Ava and Oliver Ferguson; her sister, Irene Brassard and her husband Arthur; her sisters-in-law, Mary Gadway, Thelma Gadway and Ruth Nephew; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Gadway; her brother, Benjamin Nephew; and her sister, Frances McNeil.

A special thanks to our Aunt Mary Gadway for being with our mother throughout the summer and fall, giving her daily care, taking her to doctor’s appointments; just for being there when we could not be.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Church in Mineville, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Theresa’s memory to All Saints Church, 17 St. Patrick’s Place, Port Henry, NY 12974 or to the Cardiac Unit at CVPH, c/o the Foundation of CVPH Medical Center, 75 Beekman St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Margaret M Nephew

BEEKMANTOWN — Margaret M. LaValley, 88, of 871 Durand Road, died peacefully at her home early Sunday morning, Oct. 20, 2002, listening to country music with her loving children and grandchildren at her side.

She was born in Mooers Forks on Nov. 4, 1913, the daughter of Benjamin and Philanda (Peet) Nephew.

Mrs. LaValley was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

She married the late Zepher J. LaValley at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks in 1934.

Survivors include three sons, Leonard LaValley and his wife, Lucy, of Plattsburgh, Lawrence LaValley and his wife, Joan, of Peru, and Gerald LaValley and his fiancée, Dennise, of Beekmantown; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Marion Dragoon and her husband, Robert, of Beekmantown, and Roy Stone of Schuyler Falls, N.Y.; three sisters, Nellie Burdo of Plattsburgh, Theresa Larochelle and her husband, Robert, and Irene McComb and her husband, Harold, all of Mooers Forks; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Two daughters, Dorothy LaValley and Theresa Stone; four brothers, Benjamin, Alex, Robert and Arthur Nephew; and four sisters, Rose Garrand, Marie LaValley, Rita Miller and Bertha Trombley, all died earlier.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country in her memory.

Benjamin Nephew, Sr., of Mooers
Forks, died last night at his home
after being stricken with a heart attack
earlier in the day. His age was
61. «
Mr. Nephew was born at Malone,
•but had lived at Mooers Forks nearly
all his life. He is survived by his
wife, the former Philanda Pete, eight
daughters and four sons:
Mrs. Peter Burdo of Altona, Mrs.
Zepher Lavalley, Mrs. Francis Miller
and Mrs. Walter Trombly of Beekmantown,
Mrs. Amos Lavalley of
Chazy, Mrs. Alec Guerin of Mooers
and the Misses Theresa and Irene
Nephew of Mooers Forks; Benjamin,
Jr., of West Chazy, and Alec, Robert
and Arthur, of Chazy.
A brother, William, whose address
was not immediately available) and
a sister, Mrs. Henry Eunbin of Altona,
also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday
morning at 9:30 o’clock from
Holy Angels Church at Altona. interment
will be in the church cemetery.

ELLENBURG DEPOT –
Wilmer P. Nephew, 81, died
Thursday, Dec. 10, 1992, at his
residence.
He was born Oct. 12, 1911, in
Mooers Forks, the son of Albert
and Emma (Rock) Nephew.
For many years, he was owner
and operator of Nephews Ford
Farm Machinery Garage in
Ellenburg Depot, tie was a
former board member and
member of the Ellenburg
Kiwanis Club, founding member
of the Ellenburg Depot Fire
Department, and member of
Mount Herman Masonic Lodge
Free and Accepted Masons. He
was a member of McCavanaugh
Pond Hunting Club Inc., and the
Gulf View Club. He was a
member of Ellenburg Depot
Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Nina Colgan; three
daughters, Mrs. Kenneth
(Sharon) Lafave of Ellenburg
Depot, Mrs. Patrick (Colleen)
Bernard of Coopersville, and
Deanna Pratt of Ellenburg
Depot; three brothers, Carl

Friday at the CVPH Medical Center
in Piattsburgh.
She was born in Mooers Forks
Jan. 12, 1924, daughter of Benjamin

was the widow of Francis Miller
who died in 1978.
Mrs. Miller was a member of St.
Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. She
worked as a cafeteria staff member
at the Beekmantown Central School
for 13 years until her retirement,
due to illness, in 1979.
