MORRISONVILLE, N.Y. — Mrs. Leona N. Gadway, 92, of River Street in Morrisonville, N.Y., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born Dec. 22, 1916, the daughter of Walter and Anna (Hayes) Newell.

Leona graduated from D’Youville Academy in 1934 and the Plattsburgh Business Institute in 1939. She was a parishioner at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville and a member of the St. Alexander’s Altar Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Clinton County Historical Society and Civil Service Association. Leona enjoyed gardening, sewing and arts and crafts.

Leona was predeceased by her husband, Wallace Gadway, who passed away March 30, 1995; two sisters, Marion Newell and Jeanette “Jeanne” Bushey; and a brother, Donald Newell.

She is survived by three sons, Michael Gadway and his companion Rose Recor of Cadyville, N.Y., William Gadway of Keeseville, N.Y., Mark and his wife Lisa of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and a daughter, Elizabeth Brown and her husband Robert of Morrisonville, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jeanine Murphy and husband Kevin, Donna Taylor and her husband Tory, Thomas Gadway, Michelle Pray and her husband Sheldon and David Brown and his companion Kim Chilton. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Watts of Morrisonville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Alexander’s Church in Morrisonville. Burial will be later in the year in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center, Sibley Hall, Room 227, 101 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901 or St. Alexander’s Altar Rosary Society.
