KEESEVILLE – Gilbert R. LaBounty, 85, of Hill Street, Keeseville, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at his home.He was born in Keeseville, Oct. 21, 1921, the son of Steve and Geinavee (Spooner) LaBounty.Gilbert was a lifelong resident of Keeseville.Gilbert served as a switchboard operator in the field for the U.S. Army from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was wounded during his service and received a number of medals and commendations.Gilbert enjoyed many things in life, but most important to him was family and spending time with each of them.Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ida (LaBounty) and Francis Spooner of Peru, Grace (Powers) Kelly of Silver Bay, Minn., and Cynthia (Powers) and Mark LaVigne of Summerville, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Laurie Powers of Schenectady and Ronald and Judy Powers of Plattsburgh; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by his first wife, Laura (King) LaBounty, November 1959; a set of twins, Patrick and Patricia LaBounty, October 1947; and second wife, Susan (Powers) LaBounty, February 2002.Calling hours will be held Friday, April 27, 2007, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., 124 Clinton St., Keeseville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at St. John’s Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, pastor, celebrating. Burial and full military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.Donations in Gilbert’s memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad or the Keeseville Fire Department.
