JERRY ROLLO, NATIVE

OF ELLENBURG, DIES

Jerry “Rollo, 72, a native of the

Town of Ellenburg, resident of

Hawklnsville, near Boonville, died

Sunday in Rome hospital following

a long illness.

Mr. Rollo was born at Ellenburg

Depot on Oct. 9, 1874. In 1916 at

Ellenburg, he was united in marriage

to Arement Richard. He was

engaged in farming prior to moving

to Hawklnsville some years ago.

Besides his widow, Mr. Rollo is

survived by a daughter, Mrs. Woodrow

W. Qoss of Hawklnsville, and

three grandchildren.

The funeral services and interment

were held at Boonville Tuesday.

ELLENBURG DEPOT – Emma
Rollo, 80, died Thursday morning,
Oct. 27, 1983, at the CVPH Medical
Center.
She was born on May 6, 1903, in
Ellenburg Depot, the daughter of
Henry and Melinda (LaBarge)
Rollo.
Survivors include two sisters,
Mrs. Lottie Patnode of Altona and
Mrs. Fred (Mable) LaValley of
Mooers Forks; and several nieces
and nephews.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Sunday at the E.F. Drown Funeral
Home in Ellenburg Depot.
Funeral services will be 10:30
a.m. Monday at St. Edmund’s
Church in Ellenburg.
Burial will be in the parish
cemetery.

FARMER TAKES OWN
LIFE WITH SHOT GUN
Nelson Rollo. Despondent, Shoots
Himself Through Heart—Is
Found By Wife.

Nelson Rollo, 47 years of age,, a
farmer who resides in the town of
Altona, near Ellenburgh Depot, shot
and instantly killed himself at about
2 o’clock yesterday afternoon on his
farm on the plank road. It is said
he had been in low spirits for some
timd and that an injury last year,
caused by a fall when he struck his
head,, caused his despondency.
JMrs. Kollo was down stairs in the
!house when she heard a strange
noise overhead in one of the* bedrooms
where her husband was and
she thought he was moving some of
the furniture-. Soon afterwards she
tieard a shot. ‘She ran to the bathroom
and found her husband lying on
the floor- He had shot himself
jwith a shot gun, the charge having
entered the heart an examination by
Dr. Daiky, of Ellenburgh ; Cent<
showed.
Dr. Daily expressed the opinion
that the man was mentally deranged
•when he* committed the deed.
Rollo had taken the mattress off
the bed and had lain down on it. He
had pulled the trigger of the pun
with a piece of wood. Coroner La-
Fountaine, of Champlain. was called
and declared the deaUi to be one of
suicide ‘While temporarily insane.
“Tho deceased, who was well-to-do,
leaves six children, besides his wife.
The children are: Edward. Mrs. Edward
Labave; Nelson, Frank, Isaac
and William. All of the children
except Mrs. Lubarw and Kdward, re
side at home. ‘Mr. Rollo’s mother
a woman of *4 years. lives with th.
family. The funeral will be held a
10 o’clock Thursday morning from
. the Catholic ‘ Church at Ellenburg
I Center.

CHATEAUGAY RECORD

Henry Rollo Dies:
The deatii of Henry Rollo, 85 years
old. occurred at his Ellenburg home
on-March 7, 1949f and came as a
shock to his many friends as he
was in good health to the end.
He was born. August 26^ 1863 in
Altonai and followed the occupation
of farmer-,all his life. He married
the former Melinda Labarge Who
predeceased him in 1938.
He’ is survived by three daughters
Mrs. William Patnode, of Irona; and
(Mrs. Fred Lav alley and Miss Emma
Rolloi both of Ellenburg. Seven
grandchildien .survive.
FHneral services for the deceased
were held at St. Edmund’s Church
at Elleriburg Thursday morning
