MOOERS FORKS- Lawrence
Sample, 61, of Mooers Forks,
Town of Mooers highway super
inlendervt, was foupd dead in
tiie rear seat of his 1965 Pontiac
about 1 p n v Wednesday.
State police would mi disclose
who found the body, They said the
car was on the Decosie Farm Rd
about a mile north of Cannons Corners.
Dr Dana Weeks, county coroner,
was called to the scene
and pronounced Sample dead.
Weeks said Sample apparently
suffered a heart attack. State
police said an autopsy is scheduled
today ttf determine the
exact cause of death.
Mr Sample had been town
highways superintendent since
1948.
He was born in Mooers Forks
on March 27. 1903. the son of
William and Erne!me Lover
Sample.
Surviving are his widow. Mrs.
Myrtle Hawksby Sample, three
sons, Lawrence Sample.Jr , Ernest
and Leonard, all oi Rochester:
five brothers. Wright
Sample, Pern and David, of
Mooers Forks, Everest of Eau
Gal he. Fla.. and Carl of East
Barre, Vt.
Abo surviving are four sisters.
Mrs Florence Hamilton
and Mrs Frank Macomb of
Mooers. Mrs. Myrtle Lafour of
Plattsburgh and Mrsv Herman
Yogi of Massena Five grandchildren
also sunive.
The body will be removed today
from the Drown Funeral
Home in Eilenburg Depot to the
Sample residence m Mooers.

Florence Hamilton

MOOERS — • Mrs. Florence
Hamilton, 95, of the Vilas Home
in Plattsburgh and formerly of
Mooers, died Thursday, Dec. 13,
1984, at the CVPH Medical
Center.
She was born Oct. 17, 1889, in
Cannons Corners, the daughter
of William and Emeline (Lover)
Sample.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member
of Mooers United Methodist
Women and a member of the
Mooers United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include two sons,
John Hamilton of Keeseville and
Donald Hamilton of Rochester; a
daughter, Mrs. Catherine “Kitty”
Baker of Mooers; two
brothers, Carl Sample of Barre,
Vt., and Perry Sample of Mooers
Forks; a sister, Mrs. Harry
(Margaret) Bell of Massena;
nine grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.
Her husband, Lester Hamilton,
died in 1945 and several brothers
and sisters are also dead.
Calling hours will be Sunday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the
E.F. Drown Funeral Home in
Mooers.
A funeral service is scheduled
for 11 a.m. Monday at the Mooers
United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Robert Hundemann officiating.
Burial will be in Union
Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
Memorial donations may be
made to the Mooers United
Methodist Church, Mooers Fire
Department or the Vilas Horne.

Walter D. Sample

Walter D. Sample dies at 104

Walter D. Sample of 104 Bailey Ave.
Plattsburgh, died Saturday, Feb. 14, in
the CVPH Medical Center in that city.
He was born in Hemmingford,
Quebec on Oct. 9, 1876, the son of
William & Margaret (Robson) Sample.
Mr. Sample operated the family
farm on Robson Street, in the township
of Hemmingford from the late 3890’s
until he and his wife, the former Mina
Rogers, came to live in Plattsburgh, in
June, 1947. He helped his daughter
operate the Sandy Beach Motel & Cottages
on Margaret Street until the early
1960’s. Mrs. Sample died in 1959.
Mr. Sample was a member of the
United Methodist Church in Plattsburgh.
His survivors include one son,
Wilmer of Hemmingford; five
daughters, Phyllis Sample, Mrs. Verne
(Evelyn) Parrotte, and Mrs. Gladys
Perras, all of Plattsburgh; Mrs. Ethel
Smith of Hemmingford and Mrs.
Clarence (Reta) Gale of Childwold,
N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; 25 greatgrandchildren
and 7 great-greatgrandchildren.
Two other members of the family
predeceased, Mrs. Harold (Pearl)
McNaughton, in July, 1948 and
Melbourne Sample in October, 1941, both
of Hemmingford.
A prayer service was held at the R.
W. Walker Funeral Home before leaving
for services in the St. Andrews United
Church in Hemmingford, with Rev.
Richard Campbell, pastor of United
Methodist Church in Plattsburgh,
conducting the service and reciting
burial prayers at the Knox United
Church Cemetery on Robson Street.
Two hymns were sung by Ronald
Wood of Plattsburgh – Precious
Memories, by J.B. Wright and Precious
Lord Take My Hand, by Herman Voss.
Bearers were Dale McNaughton, Scott
McNaughton, Thomas Gale, Gene and
Neil Chauvin and Billy Perras, all greatgrandsons,
and honorary bearers were,
Ted Perras, Frank Gale, Ross McNaughton,
Reggie Perras and Wayne
McNaughton, all grandsons.

She was a member of

Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday at 2 pm at the R.W
Walker Funeral Home.

home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today.

MOOERS – Ethel D. McComb.
85. died Wednesday, Jan. 18,1984. at
the CVPH Medical Center.
She was born in Mooers Forks
Nov. 30, 1898. the daughter of
William and E maline (Lover) Sample.
Her husband, Frank, died March
25,1982.
She is survived by a daughter,
Mrs. Fred (Lillian) Gadway of
Mooers Forks; a son, Harold Me-
Comb of Mooers Forks; two
brothers, Carl Sample of East
Barre, Vt., and Perry Sample of
Mooers Forks; two sisters. Mrs.
Florence Hamilton of Plattsburgh
and Mrs. Harry (Margaret) Bell of
Massena; and three grandchildren
and five greatgrandchildren.
The funeral is scheduled for 1
p.m. today at the Drown Funeral
Home chapel
Burial will be in the Hemmingford
Cemetery in the spring

James Sample dies at
Home in Ogdensbug

James Sample died yesterday at
Ills home in Ogdensburg. Mr. 8ample,
who was to his 19th year, was
‘4& son of James and Matilda (Denaeore)
Sample of Mooers Porks. He
KM united in marriage to Catherine
davisen on January 25, 1898.
Mr. Sample Is Survived by his wife;
two daughters, Mrs. Irene Fox and
Mrs. Anne Smith of Ogdenaburg; a
sister, Mrs; Sarah Bradley of Mooers
and one brother, Walter, of
Mass.; also two grandsons, Leland
and Allan Smith.
Mr. Sample was a member of the
Men’s Brotherrhood Society of the
Methodist Churoh of Ogdensburg.
Funeral services will be held at
the Methodist Church in Ogdensiburg
at 2:00 p.m. Friday. The body
will then to taken to Mooers Forks
where services will be held at the’
Methodist Churcb at 1:30 Saturday.
Rev. O. E. Haymemd, of Qgdensburg,
assisted iby Rev. Willlaim. Bohne of
Mooers will Officate.

William Sample

William Sample, 82, of Mouers
Forks, N.Y.. passed awuy Jun. 2nd
1944 at the C. V. Hospital. Plattsburgh
Mr. Sample was born March 25
1861. at Moore.s Forks, and spend
his entire life In that community.
Mr. Sample wa.s predeceased by
his wife eight years ago.
Ten children survive. There are
six sons, Wright. Lawrence. David,
and Perry or .Mooer.s Fork., Everest,
and Carl of Barte. Vt.; four
daughters Mrs. Frank McComo,
Mooer.s Forks; Mrs. Lester Hamilton.
Mrs. Edward Latour and Mrs.
Delbert Warren, all of Plattsbugh
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs
Sarah Bradley, of Moore.s; two Brothers
James Sample. Ogdensourg
and Walter Sample. Adams. Mass.,
also 34 grandchildren, and 25 great-
grand children.
Funeral services were held Jan.
5th at the Methodist Church at
Mooer.s Fork.-;. Rev. Hilton Post,
acting pastor, officiated. Two beau-
tiful hymn: -When the Roll is Call-
ed Up Yonder.” and “Will the Cir-
cle Be Unbroken.” were sung by
Rev. and Mrs. MuGaimhey. Mrs.
Donald Spencer, and Sherman
Miller, the organist was Mrs.
Thomas Armstrong.
The pallbearers were his .six sons.
A large number of friends, and
relatives attended the funeral
Those from out of town were Mr
and Mrs. Sample, Cheshire, Mass.;
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cormier. West-
field, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. James
Sample. Osdsnsburg; Mrs. William
Carmanati. Earre. Vt.; Walter Sam-
pie, Adams, Mass ; and several
 friends and relatives from Covey
 Hill, and Hemmingford. Que. The
 body reposes in the vault at the|
 Union cemetery waiting interment.
