Richard J. “Smokey” Rabideau Sr.

Morrisonville � Richard J. “Smokey” Rabideau Sr., 83, of Route 22B, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center, surrounded by his children.

He was born in Cadyville on Oct. 31, 1921, the son of Nelson and Julia (Shapell) Rabideau.

Richard married the former Rita Duso in 1942 at St. James Church in Cadyville; she died in 1981.

Mr. Rabideau was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theatre.

He worked for Bay View Dairy for 35 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a fiddle player for 76 years and played with the “The Green Mountain Boys,” “Smokey and The Sunset Ramblers,” “The Cold Brook Ramblers,” and the “RSVP Kitchen Band.”

He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309 in Peru.

Richard received numerous awards for his music, including a New York Assembly Citation, the RSVP Kay Sciole Award and the Thomas J. Fallon Senior Citizen’s “Mule Skinners” Award.

Survivors include three sons, Ken Rabideau and his wife Jan of Plattsburgh, Richard Rabideau Jr. and his wife Lora of Port Richey, Fla., and Wayne Rabideau and his wife Joann of Keeseville; six daughters, Mrs. William (Janet) Quick of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Richard (June) Hart of Keeseville, Mrs. Michael (Jane) Watts of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Cliff (Joan) Torrance of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Patrick (Julie) Wardynski of Ellenville and Mrs. Paul (Jackie) Martinez of Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Ross (Hilda) Bouyea of Plattsburgh; his companion, Eunice LeClair of Plattsburgh; 33 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One son, Gary Rabideau; three grandchildren, William Quick Jr., Wendy and Heather Rabideau; two brothers, Everest and Leonard Rabideau; and one sister, Lauren Rabideau, all died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Keeseville. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.

Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

TONOWANDA – Robert D.
Rabideau, 67, of Tonawanda,
died Friday, Aug. 14, 1987, at
the Veteran Administration
Center in Buffalo.
He was born Sept. 27, 1919,
the son of Mose and Margret
(Reil) Rabideau.
During World War II he was a
staff sergeant of the 4th Infan
try Divison. U.S. Army. He was
past commander of American
Legion Post 205, D.A.V.
Chapter I and the Holy Name
Society of St. Timothy’s Church.
Survivors include his wife,
Helena (Pasino) Rabideau; two
sons, Robert Rabideau of
Phoenix, Ariz., and Gary
Rabideau of Tonawanda; one
daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Pamela)
Leonard of Tonawanda; nine
grandchildren; one great-granddaughter;
one brother, Herman
Rabideau of Morrisonville; two
sisters, Elizabeth Venne of Plattsburgh,
and Viola Rose of
Ogdensburg.
A funeral service was held at
St. Timothy’s Church at 10 a.m.
on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Bearers were all past commanders
of American Legion
Post 205, D.A.V. Chapter 1.

WINOOSKI, Vt. – Donald M.
Rabideau, 65, of 29 Railroad St.,
WinoosWk Vt., formerly of M8rrisonville,
died Tuesday morning,
Aug. 10,1982, at his home.
He was born in Cadyville on Dec.
13, 1916, the son of Mose and
Margaret (Reil) Rabideau.
Mr. Rabideau was formerly a
member of St. Alexander’s Church
in Morrisonville. He was a member
of Fountain Brothers Post 1619,
American Legion, of West Plattsburgh.
—He was a Army veteran having
served in World War II in the European
Theater. After- the war, he
. moved to the Burlington, Vt., area
where he had lived ever since.
He leaves two brothers, Robert D.
Rabideau of Tonowanda and Herman
J. Rabideau of Morrisonville;
two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Venne of
Plattsburgh and Mrs. Viola Rose of
Ogdensburg; and several nieces
and nephews
Calling hours will be this evening
from 7 to 9 and Thursday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. at the R.W: Walker
Funeral Home in Plattsburgh,
American Legion services will be
held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the
.funeral home.

Tuesday. Sept. 24, 1985, at the
CVPH Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 18, 1940, in
Chazy Lake, the daughter of Jon
and Leona (DuBrey) Rebideau.
Besides her mother, Leona
Rebideau of Chazy Lake, she
leaves her husband, Craig W. –
Treggett of Ellenburg Depot;
two daughters. Tammy and
Tracy Coplen, both of Chazy
Lake; two sons. Thomas and Tim
Coplen. both of Chazy Lake; a
lister. Mrs. Francis (Kathleen)
King of Chazy Lake; two
brothers, Sherman Rebideau of
West Plattsburgh and Jon
Rebideau of Ellenburg Depot.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held at
3 this afternoon at the Drown
Funeral Home Chapel in Ellenburg
Depot.
Entombment will be in
Whispering Maples Memorial
Gardens Ccemetery in Ellenburg
Depot.

Hospital.
He was born July 25. 1916 in
Ellenburg Depot, son of Louis and
Mary Rabideau.
Survivors include his wife, the
former Hattie Conto, two daugh-
ters. Mrs. Carl (Virginia) Demarais
of Amenta. NY.: a son, Edward
Rabideau of Wassaic: two
sisters. Mrs. Beatrice MacAviny of
Ludlow. VT . and Mrs. Lloyd (Mil
dred) ShankeL of Louisville, Ohio;
seven brothers, John of Ellenburg

The body is at the Drown Funeral
Home in Ellenburg Depot, where

Road died Saturday, June 20,
1987, at the CVPH Medical
Center.
He was born in Mount Holly,
Vt., on Oct. 5, 1914, the son of
Louis and Mary (Moses)
Rabideau.
His wife, the former Marion
LeCuyer, died in 1980.
Mr. Rabideau had worked for
Concrete Materials in Morrisonville
for 17 years before he
retired in 1977 because of poor
health.
He was a member of St. Alexander’s
Church in Morrisonville.
Survivors include a son,
Charles “Joe” Rabideau of Morrisonville;
four daughters, Mrs.
Gene (Lucinda) Desrocher, Mrs.
Ray (Connie) Durocher and Mrs.
Darrell (Linda) Collins, all of
Morrisonville, and Mrs. Michael
(Wanda) Bogacz of W. Springfield,
Mas.s.; two brothers,

Funeral Home at Ellenburg Depot.

today ta 10 a.m. at St. Bernard’s
Church at Lyon Mountain.
Burial will be in St. Alexander’s
cemetery at Morrisonville In the
spring.
