Louis A. DuBrey

Fayetteville, N.C. � Retired Army Command Sergeant Major Louis A. DuBrey, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Oct 7, 2000, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He was born on June 23, 1921, in Chazy Lake, the son of Adeline and Silas DuBrey.

He joined the U.S. Army in February of 1942 and served in the European Theater during World War II, then Korea and Vietnam, as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

He is survived by his wife Hilde; daughters Walburga Huggins of Hot Springs, N.C., Deborah Snow and Dorothea Rayty of Charlotte, N.C.; his son, Louis DuBrey of Klamath Falls, Ore.; five sisters, Dorothea McGarvey of Atlanta, Ga., Madeline Coates, Frieda Walker and Yvonne DuBrey, all of Plattsburgh and Theresa Root of Dannemora; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Amelia DuBrey and Venetta Sebast; and a brother, Archie DuBrey.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick�s Church in Fayetteville with full military honors. Burial was at Sandhills State Veteran�s Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C.

He was bom at Chazy Lake
in April 24, 1889, the son of
Peter and Lucy Gonyea Du-
Brey. He was a farmer. |
He is survived by his wife,:
the former Bessie Brooks and
four daughters, Mrs. Roma
Noel, Chazy Lake, Mrs. Leda
Ashline, Saranac, Mrs. Anges
Gianup, Cadyville. and Mrs.
Viola O’Neil, Wingdale.
Also seven sons. They are
Peter, Lionel Raymond, Victor,
Francis and Daniel, all of Chazy
Lake, and Ernest, Saranac
One sister, Mrs. Mabel Blair,
New York City, also survives.
There are 36 grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Thomas
RIble Funeral Home, Dannemora
 where calling hours are from
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be  at,
9 30 Saturday monung at St.
Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain
Burial will be in the church
cemetery.

Roma M. Noel
CHAZY LAKE ? Roma M. Noel, 86, of Route 374, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at her home. She was born in Chazy Lake on March 2, 1916, daughter of Daniel L. and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Brooks) DuBrey.

Roma was a graduate of Lyon Mountain High School. She had been employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad as a shipping clerk and SUNY Plattsburgh as part of the cleaning crew. Roma was a member of Home Bureau, Catholic Daughters of America, Court of Our Lady of Snows and Lyon Mountain Senior Citizens.

She was a life-long member of St. Bernard?s Church in Lyon Mountain.

Roma is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Christopher Wright of Schenectady; two grandchildren, Karyn Wright and Katie Wright; two brothers, Ernest DuBrey of Saranac and Daniel DuBrey of Chazy Lake; a sister and brother-in-law, Viola and William Warner of Chazy Lake and Mims, Fla.; five sisters-in-law, Patricia DuBrey of Chazy Lake, Janet Noel of Plattsburgh, Louise Weaver of Toledo, Ohio, Jean Noel of Ellenburg Depot, Helen Noel and her husband, Gerald, of Chazy Lake; and a brother-in-law, John Noel of Plattsburgh. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will also be missed by her special friends, Sandy and Clitus Schuessler and Rosemary Mason from Chazy Lake.

Roma was predeceased by her husband, Joseph K. Noel, in July of 1982; five brothers, Peter, Lionel, Raymond, Victor and Francis DuBrey; two sisters, Leda Ashline and Agnes Guynup.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Catholic Charities.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 9, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Brown Funeral Home, Park Row, Cadyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Bernard?s Church in Lyon Mountain. Burial will follow in St. Bernard?s Cemetery.

DANNEMORA – Mrs. Cora
Ann Venne of Dannemora died
Wednesday at her home here.
Her age was 75.
Mrs. Venne was born March
16, 1887, at Lyon Mountain, a
daughter of Peter  and Lucy
Gonyea DuBrey.
She is survived by three sons,
Adrian and Roland of Ellenburg
Depot and Vernon of Hyde Park,
and a daughter Thelma
Blasier of Maryland; nine grandchildren,
and three great-grandchildren.
The body is at her home. The
funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Friday in St. Joseph’s Church in
Dannemora. Burial will be in the
parish cemetery.

Peter Dubray (Pierre Dubreuil)

THURSDAY. OCTOBER 24. 1968

Peter Dubray, French-Canadian at Chazy Lake, was of like build
as evidenced by his “fit” in coffins at the time of his decease. Dubray,
who had serve with the 91st NY. Volunteers in the civil war,
received a wound which never completely healed. He weighed 479
pounds shortly before being laid to rest. His Twelve children and 30
grandchildren had attended a family reunion shortly before that. Daring
his last illness he wept at the thought of leaving a favorite colt.
The horse was carried to his room for a last farewell.

Peter Dubray

Peter Dubray died at his residence
at Chazy Lake, N. Y., on
Thursday Dec. 17, at the age of
55 years.
He was born in Saranac, N. Y.,
March 31, 1870, moving to Chazy
Lake with his parents, when a
child but 2 years of age.
Twenty-eight years ago he married
Helen Dupuis of the same village,
and they located on a farm
within sight of the beautiful lake,
where they have resided up to
the time of his death.
Mr, Dubray was employed, for
18 years in constructing roads for
the Town of Dannemora and in
1820 -was elected Highway Commissioner
where he served his
town- faithfully for 4 years.
Mr. Dubray had been in failing
health for some time, and in Nov.
1924, underwent an operation at
the Champlain Valley Hospital,
His condition became improved
and he was able to conduct his
business and worked right along
until November 1st when he was
confined to his Bed.
He was a patient sufferer, bearing
his lot with courage and never
complaining. Deceased was a devoted
husband and father, a good
Christian and a faithful member
of St. Joseph’s Church of Dannemora
and one of the Knights of Columbus.
He leaves to mourn his loss be-

of Saranac Lake, N. Y., Mrs. Andrew
Barber, and Miss Norma Dubrey
of Chazy Lake. Besides an
aged mother, 5 brothers and 6

Funeral  was held from St. Jose-
ph’s Church at Dannemora at 9 ‘
o’clock Monday morning, Dec. 20th
Requiem High Mass was sung, Rev
Father Hervieux officiating. Interment
was in the cemetery there.
The church was thronged with
relatives and friends, showing the
respect in which he was held in
The community. We wish to extend
to the ‘bereaved family our
heartfelt sympathy in this hour
of bereavement.
