Howard J Prairie

Howard Prarie of Norfork and
formerly of Brainardsville passed
away recently at the age of 55,
He was the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs, Joseph Prarie and was
married to the foaner Rita
Roberts of Brainardsvllle. Besides
his wife he is survived by
four sisters, Mrs, Charles Smith
of Saranac Lake, Mrs. Elizabeth
Legacy, Mrs. Cca Bushey and
daughter Norm a of Chicopec
Falls, Mass, and Mrs. Earl
Straiter and son Arlington of
Brainardsville; three brothers,
Frank of Mew Jersey, Calvin and
Leo of Burke; one daughter, Mrs.
Fred (Gloria) Washer of Watertown,
a son Dale of Norfork and
four grandchildren. Pallbearers
tor the late Howard Prarie were:
Ross Prarie, Lawrence Prarie,
Robert Prarie, Lyle Prarie, Win
Legacy and John Dominy, all
nephews of the decased.

was dead on arrival afPotsdam
Hospital at 1:30 Saturday
morning, Oct. 31, 1970. He had
been in failing health for the
past two years.
Funerai services were held
at 10 a.m. Monday .from the
Church of the Visitation, No r
folk, with Rev. George Lemieux
pastor, officiating. Burial
was in the Brainardsville Cemetery.
Surviving are his widow.

Mr Prairie was born at Belt
mont Center April 19, 1915, a
son of Joseph and Vina Yandew

Sept. 30, 1939 and the couple
lived at Burke until about 16
years ago when they moved t
Norfolk where he became employed
at the Barrett Division
of the Allied Chemical Corp.

Died Thursday

Bernard A. Prairie, of Ellenburg
died last Thursday night at the
Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone,
from injuries sustained when he
was stuck by a car in this village
on November 1st. Mr. Prairie suffered
a broken hip and other injur*
les and appear to be recovering
when he suffered a relapse.

Fort man’s father dies

Calvin A. Prairie, 63, of
Burke, father of Lyle A
Prairie of Fort Covington,
died Saturday, June 28 at
the Alice Hyde Hospital
followling a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were
held Tuesday at ten at St.
George’s Church, Burke,
with the Rev. Paul Beyette
officiating. Interment was
in Notre Dame Cemetery.
He was born in Bellmont,
August 4, 1911, a son of
Joseph and Mina Yando
Prairie and was a lifelong
resident of the area. He
was a trucker in
construction work, retiring
in 1973 because of declining

who survives.
Besides his wife and son,
he is survived by four

Elizabeth A. Legacy

BURKE — Elizabeth A. Legacy,
97. of die Spencer Road, died Saturday.
April 3. 1993, at Alice Hyde
Hospital in Makme.
Bora in Bellmont, Sept 8.189S,
she was the daughter of Joseph and
Vina Yando Prairie.
On July 1,1914, she was married
to William Legacy Sr. at Notre
Dante Church with Rev. Blanchatd
officiating. Mr. Legacy died Sept
Mrs. Legacy lived most of her
life in the Malone area and attended
schools in Bellmont She and her
husband operated a family farm in
Burke for more than SO years. She
also worked m me mrfrff at the
Sanunoni Hotel in Saranac Lake for
seven years. She retired from there
in 1962 and made her home with her
daughter in Saranac Lake.
She was a member of St
George’s Church and former member
of St Bernard’s Church in Sa-
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
John (Marjorie) Dominy of Burke; a
son and daughter-in-law, William
Legacy Jr. and Mary Legacy of
Burke; 13 grandchildren; 21 greatgrandchildren;
17 great-great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews;
and a sister, Isabdl Smith of
Portsmouth, NJ
Mrs. Legacy was predeceased by
two daughters. Alma Monette and
Rum Jewtraw, six brothers, Frank,
Leo, Calvin, Bernard, Raymond and
Howard Prairie; and three sisters,
Anne Straiter, Cora Bushey and
Edith Machabey.
Quling hours were held in the St
Mary-Murphy Funeral Home chapel
in Malone. A parish vigil service
was held Tuesday in me funeral
home at 7:30 pjn. A Mass of Christian
Burial was held in St George’s
Church m Burke today at 10 am.
Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery
in Malone.

Joseph Prairie, 89, a lifelong resident
of this area, died on Tuesday
morning, April 19th at the Maneeley
Nursing Home, Malone, after a long
He was born in Chazy, March 4,
1866, a son of the late Frank and Delia
(Young) Prairie. He was a farmer
by occupation.
Mrs. Prairie, the former Vina Yando,
died September 29, 1943.
