CHAPMAN, James Gordon 76, of Cairo, West Virginia, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. Born November 25, 1928 in Smithburg, WV, Jim was a graduate of West Union High School and Salem College. He also earned two Masters Degrees, one from Glennville State University and one from West Virginia University. Jim was a proud Korean War veteran who served his country well and with great honor as a member of the United States Army. He taught high school Social Studies and English in Cincinnati, Ohio for a brief period prior to accepting Civil Service employment at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio from which he retired at age 63. His major accomplishments while working for the United States Air Force include developing a price negotiation procedure adopted by the Department of Defense. He moved back to his beloved Ritchie County, West Virginia in the late 1990s after spending many years in Medway, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbert P. and Wanda Chapman, grandson John Hill, great-grandson Jakob Hill and sister Bonita Nichols. Jim was a caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters Aleta Chapman (husband Tom Manning), Elana Chapman, and Rosie Amstutz (husband David); grandchildren Jason, Crystal, Noah, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren Sarah, Elizabeth, Chase, and Annabelle; sisters Sandy Sandy, Gwen Friend, and Norma Hartness; brother Wilbert “Junior”; a loyal and devoted friend Ted Katzenbach, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family would like to recognize those people who supported our father in his final years of life including Ted Katzenbach, Sandy Sandy, Kester Nichols, Otis Reed, Glenn Willis, Sheila (Squeak) Ross, Paul Ross, Gail Britton, Martha Chapman, Raymond Simons and Patti Polaski. Private internment at West Virgina National Cemetery, Grafton, West Virginia.
