Kenneth L. Schoen, 87, Elizabeth, died Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.

Born Jan. 17, 1923, in Elizabeth, he was the son of the late Gustav and Dora Hussung Schoen.

He was a farmer, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lanesville, the voters assembly and the Men’s club in the church, a former member of the Harrison County Parks Board, Harrison County school board and Harrison County Farm Bureau Credit Union Board and was a former Posey Township Trustee.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel L. Schoen, and a grandson, Eric Schoen.

Survivors include his companion, Deanie Houser of Elizabeth; four sons, Kevin Schoen of Dayton, Ohio, and Ronald, Russell and Richard Schoen, all of Elizabeth; four daughters, Elaine Allen of Shepherdsville, Ky., Karen Schoen of Lanesville, Diane Turner of Corydon and Denise McKnight of Elizabeth; three brothers, Darrell Schoen of Bellingham, Wash., Wilbur Schoen of New Albany and Marcell Schoen of Elizabeth; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 7, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 8, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church south of Lanesville followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Officiant: Pastor Christopher Truelsen.

Pallbearers: Larry Hedden, Anthony Schoen, Scott Hutt, Rusty Crosier, Michael Schoen and Scott Nance.

Honorary pallbearer: Brad Turner.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to either St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
