COLUMBUS – Lloyd Donald Shoffner, 83, 2323 W. Russell Road, Sidney, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at 8:54 p.m., at James Cancer Center of OSU Hospital in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Shelby County to the late Fred A. Sr. and Ida M. (Brown) andShoffner.

On Feb. 18, 1961, he married Shirley Ann (Kaeck) Shoffner, and she preceded him in death after 45 years of marriage on April 27, 2006.

He is survived by three children, Cathy Spears, Larry Alan Shoffner, and Scott AlanShoffner, all of Sidney; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Craig) Howard of Sidney, Angel (Jason) Katterhenrick of New Knoxville, Jenny (Mark) Hayes of Colorado, Micah Spears of Sidney, Maria Spears of Sidney, Adam Spears of Lima, and Andrew Spears of Sidney; and four great-grandchildren, Zack, Chelsea, Mariah and Alysha.

He also is survived by his brother, Cecil Shoffner of Sidney; brother-in-law, Wayne Aker of Jackson Center; sisters-in-law, Joann Shoffner of Sidney and Rose Fogt of Jackson Center; brothers and sisters-in-law, June and Marvin Atkinson, Janet and Robert Treon, Patricia and Frank Marrow, Donald and Marcia Kaeck, and Ronald and Nancy Kaeck; and special family friend, Jody Daniels of Sidney, as well as a host of other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife and both parents; a son-in-law, Clyde Spears; one granddaughter-in-law, Lavida Spears; and brother, Marion Shoffner.

He was a member of Sidney Christian Tabernacle on Second Avenue in Sidney. He was a previous member of the Sidney Grace Baptist Church and the Troy Baptist Temple. He was a UAE Union Member and a Sidney Haunted Woods fire tender for nine years, helping his son Scott.

Lloyd worked for Hobart Corp., Mack Trucks and for Dr. Beigel Sr. He also worked security for an area nursing home.

Mr. Shoffner graduated in 1941 from Green Township School.

He enjoyed yard work, and landscaping his yard and other family and friends’ yards, and was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds.

He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had provided for his family and his friends for many years. He was admired by many and will be greatly missed by all.

Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Sidney Christian Tabernacle, Second Avenue, Sidney, with the Rev. Jim Johnson officiating.

A private committal service of cremains will be held at Glen Cemetery, Port Jefferson, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shoffner Family Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are by the Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
