Alba Joan (Joanie) Roberts

PLATTSBURGH — Joanie Roberts, 70, formerly of Mooers, N.Y., passed away peacefully at CVPH on Feb. 11, 2011, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends and she will be dearly missed.

Joanie enjoyed cooking for her family, going to the casino and spending time with her many friends at Blue Haven Campground playing cards, tooling around on her golf cart and having fun. She could always be counted on to pull a good prank and she endeared countless people to her with her zest for life and laughter.

Joanie was born in Ellenburg Center, N.Y., on January 7, 1941, the daughter of Della (LeClair) and Elsworth Trombley. In 1959, she married Gerald Roberts and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage before his passing in 2007.

Joanie is survived by her children, Marybeth Schraders (Bas), Amy Gardner (Michael), Joseph Roberts and Anthony Roberts (Brenda). She was dearly loved by her ten grandchildren, Jared, Jacob, Jana, Justin (Madonna), Jill (Stephen), Juliana, Gabriella, Ryan, Aidan and Owen; and she greatly anticipated the upcoming birth of her first great-grandchild.

She also leaves behind her sisters, Doris Mooney and Frances Tourville; and her brothers, Lester Trombley, Robert Trombley (Debbie) and Leonard Trombley (Wanda). Also surviving Joanie are her aunts, Hilda Duffina and Eleanor Gaffney; along with a niece, Penny Castine, who was like a daughter to her. She held close to her heart many wonderful friends; nieces and nephews and they will feel her loss deeply.

Joanie was predeceased by her parents, Della (LeClair) and Elsworth Trombley; her husband, Gerald Roberts; her brother, Father Joseph Trombley; her brothers-in-law, Ross Mooney and Norman Tourville; and her sister-in-law, Kay Trombley.

Calling hours will be held at Ross Funeral Home, 2587 State Route 11 in Mooers, N.Y., on Monday, Feb. 14, from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at St. Joseph’s Church in Mooers, N.Y., at 1p.m.

Interment will be at a later date at St. Edmund’s Cemetery in Ellenburg, N.Y.

Special thanks to Dr. Duus and the staff on the 4th floor of CVPH. Their kindness and compassion went above and beyond the call of duty and will be remembered with much appreciation.

The family asks that any donations be made to Our Lady of the Adirondacks House of Prayer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ross Funeral Home, 2587 State Route 11, Mooers, N.Y.; (518) 236-2222.
