Catherine S. Muehl


SYRACUSE — Catherine S. Muehl, 94, of Syracuse, N.Y., and formerly of Malone, N.Y., died Wednesday evening, June 24, 2009, at the Community General Hospital in Syracuse.

Born in Tupper Lake, N.Y., Oct. 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late David and Odelia (Nichols) Gadway.

On June 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Martin J. Muehl at the Sacred Heart Church in Roxbury, N.Y. He predeceased her April 30, 1969.

Catherine was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church and a member of the St. Augustine’s and St. Edward’s Altar Rosary Society. She was a religious education teacher for many years. She worked for the Green Thumb Program and was an active member of the Brushton-Moira Senior Citizens. She was a dealer and life member of Blair Products.

Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, James and Delcie Muehl of Mattydale, N.Y., David and Romona Muehl of North Bangor, N.Y., George and Sherry Muehl and Gerald Muehl, all of St. Albans, Vt., and Thomas and Sue Muehl of Oneida, N.Y.; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Odelia “Dolly” and Phillip Leroux of Fort Covington, Cecilia LaPlante of Mattydale, N.Y., Nora Brockway of Malone and Carol Vancour of Constable, Agnes Thater of Syracuse and Martina and Larry Zimmer of Glen Haven, Wis.; one sister, Nora Kramberg of Williamson, N.Y.; 41 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and her husband; she was predeceased by one daughter, Theresa Ann Muehl in 1957; four brothers, Eugene, Leon, James and Clarence Gadway; and one sister, Sister Agnes Gadway, SSH.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bruso-Desnoyers Funeral Home in Malone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in North Bangor, with the Rev. Christopher Looby and her nephew, Rev. Donald

Kramberg, officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Donations may be made in her memory to either St. Augustine’s Church or to the Brushton-Moira Nutrition Center.
