Martha Luella Shoffner Young, 89, of Jackson Center, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney.

She was born in Bloom Center on May 16, 1921, to the late William and Carrie Forsythe Shoffner.

On June 13, 1939, she married Grant M. Young and he died June 27, 2000. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy “Buck” Shoffner.

Martha is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Don) DeWeese of Lewistown; two grandchildren, Jayme (Brian) Hardy of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Derek DeWeese of Lewistown; and three great-grandchildren, Erika and Everett Grant Hardy and Sierra DeWeese.

A 1939 graduate of Lewistown High School, Martha worked as an office manager for 10 years at the Jackson Center Farm Bureau and later at Provico in Botkins for four years.

Prior to moving into Jackson Center, Martha and Grant lived on the Clyde Bennett Farm south of Jackson Center for 25 years.

Martha was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Jackson Center Senior Citizens and loved to travel out West. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Pastor Kent Hollis officiates a funeral at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Jackson Center. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson Center chapel of Smith-Eichholtz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or the Humane Society Serving Logan County.
