Lawrence “Larry” W. Agoney

STANDISH – Lawrence “Larry” W. Agoney, 76, of Wolf Pond Road, Standish, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh.

Born in Dannemora on Feb. 8, 1925, he was the son of Edward and Mable (Perry) Agoney.

He was married to Theresa Rabideau on April 3,1948, in St. Michael’s Church, Standish.

Mr. Agoney is survived by his wife of 53 years; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Ann Agoney of Sciota; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Matthew Agoney; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Margie Agoney of Orlando, Fla., Robert and Dina Agoney of Glenn Burnie, Md., and Richard “Tommy” and Carol Agoney of Scotia; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Manion of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Lillian Parrish of Plattsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Hazel) Williams of Plattsburgh and Mr. and Mrs. Clifton and Theresa Taylor of Peru.

Those that preceded in death were his parents; a son, Lawrence William Agoney Jr., in 1948; a brother, Frederick Agoney, in 1944; and two sisters, Mrs. Sadie White, in 1983 and Helen Imhoff, in 1948.

Mr. Agoney served in the U.S. Army from May 1943 until Dec. 1945. He was involved in the second wave of troops to hit Normandy Beach and was honorably discharged on Dec. 17, 1945. After his return home he was employed as a cook for several firms including General Electric in Schenectady and D&H Railroad. He retired from the construction field, where he had been employed by Harvey Yarmas Construction, Plattsburgh.

Larry was a member of Laborers International Union in Plattsburgh and Plattsburgh American Legion Post.

Calling hours will be held at Lyon Mountain Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in St. Bernard’s Church, Lyon Mountain, with Msgr. Bernard Christman officiating.

Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Lyon Mountain, in the spring.

Arrangements are with the Chateaugay Funeral Home, Chateaugay.
