Fort man’s father dies

Calvin A. Prairie, 63, of
Burke, father of Lyle A
Prairie of Fort Covington,
died Saturday, June 28 at
the Alice Hyde Hospital
followling a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were
held Tuesday at ten at St.
George’s Church, Burke,
with the Rev. Paul Beyette
officiating. Interment was
in Notre Dame Cemetery.
He was born in Bellmont,
August 4, 1911, a son of
Joseph and Mina Yando
Prairie and was a lifelong
resident of the area. He
was a trucker in
construction work, retiring
in 1973 because of declining
health.
On November 12, 1936,
in St. George’s Church,
Burke, he was married to
the former Muriel Sorrell,
who survives.
Besides his wife and son,
he is survived by four
sisters, Mrs. Cora Bushey
of Chicopee Falls, Mass.,
Mrs. Ann Strader of Glens
Falls, Mrs. Elizabeth
Legacy of Saranac Lake
and Mrs. Charles
(Isabelle) Smith of
Saranac Lake; three
grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by five
brothers, Frank, Howard,
Leo, Raymond, and
Bernard and a sister, Mrs.
Edith Machabee
