Lena LaFountain

MOOERS FORKS — Lena E. LaValley, 84, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Mooers Forks on March 25, 1916, the daughter of Oliver and Emma (Nephew) LaFountain.

She owned and operated Al and Lee’s Diner in Mooers for many years. She was also employed by the Mooers Slipper Factory, the Ellenburg Inn, and she also operated a dairy farm with her husband. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks and the Ladies of St. Ann. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Freeman and Carol LaValley of Mooers Forks, and Gerald and Darlene LaValley of Mooers Forks; a daughter and son-in-law, Almira and Richard Lamberton of Mooers Forks; a daughter-in-law, Barbara LaValley of Auburn, Maine; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Dora LaFountain of Portland, Ore., and Owen and Lucille LaFountain of Altona; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Herman Puryea of Altona, Eva and Raymond Gilman of Altona, and Lillian and Roy Puryea of Altona; a sister-in-law, Doris LaFountain of Plattsburgh; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Albert LaValley, died in 1992. Two sons, Leonard and Leeward, two brothers, Noah and Alfred LaFountain, and a sister, Cecile Rabideau also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.F. Drown Funeral Service in Mooers. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
