Thomas Vassar

Thomas Vassar, 61, of 99 River
St., died Friday, April 7, at the
General Hospital of Saranac
Lake.
He was bom Jan. 25, 1928, in
Lake Placid, the son of George
and Laura (Martin) Vassar. They
survive.
He was married in 1953 in Lake
Placid to the former Barbara Gill,
who survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army, serving with the Medics.
He joined the Lake Placid Volunteer
Fire Department in 1952,
was assistant fire chief from 1972
to 1976 and fire chief in 1976 and
1977.
He was a member of the Lake
Placid Village Police Department
from 1957 to 1969. After that, he
was employed by the Ibwn of
North Elba,
He was a member of the Lake
Placid American Legion Post 326
and the Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
Survivors, in addition to his wife
and parents, include two sons,
Steven Vassar and Brian Vassar,
both of Lake Placid; one brother,
Richard Vassar of Southington,
Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Sylvia
Thornton of Lincoln, Maine;
three grandchildren and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were said Monday
at St. Eustace Episcopal
Church, with the Rev. Wrilliam
Hayes officiating. Burial followed
in North Elba Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Purdy
and Robert Purdy of Keene, and
Horace Pratt, Robert Vincent,
Robert Whitney. and James
Jewtraw of Lake Placid.
Clark Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
