CLAYBURG, N.Y. — Laura Smart, 89, of Clayburg, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

She was born in Saranac on March 19, 1917, the daughter of George and Roseanna (Goddeau) Rasco.

She was employed as a cook for many years at Mount Assumption Institute. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Redford where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society and Union of Prayer. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence Smart, Donald and Tami Smart and Wayne Smart, all of Saranac; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Anne and Jon Brousseau of Saranac, Louise and Russ Tedford of Cadyville, Judy and Norman Taylor of Saranac; Miss Pauline Smart of West Chazy; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Leo Bernard Smart, died in 1994. A brother, Francis Rasco; and three sisters, Josephine Collins, Eva LaFountain and Theresa Ormsbee, also died earlier.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the O’Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home, 94 Court St., in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday from the Church of the Assumption in Redford. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
