Hiram Welch

Plattsburgh Sentinel FRIDAY, APRIL 28, 1916

Hiram Welch, of Ellenburpr Depot,
aged 81 years passed away Tuesday
evening April 4th about 8 p. m. The
infirmities incident to old age were
the cause of his death and without any
pain or suffering he had for several
months- been gradually failing.
He apparently enjoyed life even
while conscious that he was nearing
the end of life and talking: of nearness
and readiness for this life to
close with him as one would of any
other •expected incident, often urgin
his daughters not to pray-that his life
might not be- prolonged. His end
came peacefully without a struggle
He was born in Franklin Center,P
Q. July 1st, 1825 and when a. young
man was foreman of a gang- of young men
working on the tunnel being- built between
Port Huron and Port Sarnia
Ont. He also worked and lived in
lowa. A few years after returning
from the west he married Miss Ann:.
Dunn of Franklin Center,P.Q, from
where he moved to this locality fifty
years ago March 13, 1966 where he
has reseded ever since. He was an
active. energetic man, active in his
business and politics, being- a staunch
Republican and at times tilling some
of the Town offices. He was a member
of the F.B church of this place
and with others aided in its eretion
He is survived by a widow
aged 77 whoe has been in very poor
health this last winter and three daughters
Mrs I.L. Sheldon of this place.
Mrs Fred L Sheldon of Tacoma Wash,
Mrs H.R. Lasell of this place.
The funeral being deferred waiting for
his daughter from tacoma to arrive.
was held April 12, 10:30 a.m at M.E
church Reb W.R Ryder officiated, selecting
the text James 4-14 . He died a victorious
death, the last words spoken to one of
his daughters were I am ready to go.
