Ellenburg Councilman
Raymond DeCoste dies

M DeCoste. 54, of Ellenburg
Depot, died Friday, March 30. 1984,
at the CVPH Medical Center.
Mr. DeCoste had been involved in
politics since 1967, when he became
supervisor of the town of Ellenburg.
He was also one of the original county
legislators, representing Area 2
from 1968 through 1971. He was serving
as councilman for the town of
Ellenburg at the time of his death.
He was a third-degree member of
the Father Augustus J. Dumont
Council, Knights of Columbus, in
Ellenburg, having held the office of
grand knight for two terms, and was
a member of Our Lady of Victory
Assembly Fourth-Degree Knights of
Mr. DeCoste was a member and
past president of the Ellenburg
Kiwanis Club. He was also a
member and former fire chief of the
Ellenburg Depot Fire Department.
Mr. Decoste was a farm equipment
dealer for 30 years and later
was an automobile salesman with
Phil’s Chevrolet and Rowe Brothers
Ford in Ellenburg Depot.
Mr. Decoste was born Oct. )9.
1919, in Mooers Forks, the son of
Eldmore and and Bertha (Gadway)
Besides his parents, he leaves, his
wife, the former Ethel Keegan; two
sons. Curtis DeCoste of Florence,
Ala., and Calvin DeCoste of
Syracuse; five daughters, Christine
of West Palm Beach, Fla.. Mrs.
Henry (Cathy) Rea of Colorado Springs.
Colo.. Mrs. Brooke (Conney)
Rowe of Ithaca, Mrs. Michael
(Carolyn) Kingsley of Lewiston.
Idaho, and Carla DeCoste of Ellenburg
Depot; eight brothers, Marcel
DeCoste of Mooers Forks. Joseph.
Gary, Arthur, and Leonelle
DeCoste, all of Mooers, Leon
DeCoste of West Chazy, Victor
DeCoste of South Burlington,
Vt.,and Lawrence DeCoste of
Rensselaer; three sisters: Mrs.
Samuel (Rita) Demarais of Ellenburg
Depot, Mrs. Michael (Sandra)
Bechard of Chazy and Mrs. Wayne
four grandchildren.
Calling hours.will be from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Drown
Funeral Home in Ellenburg. Kiwanians
will meet at the funeral home
at 7 p.m. Sunday and the Knights of
Columbus at 8 p.m.-
Funeral services will be held at 10
a.m. Monday at St. Edmund’s
Church, Ellenburg.
Entombment will be in Whispering
Maples Memorial Gardens
Cemetery, Ellenburg Depot.
