PASSES AWAY
AT CHURUBUSCO

Prominent Farmer, Former
Supervisor, Succumbs
At Age of 60

E. G. S. Gagnier, 60, prominent
farmer of the town of Clinton, died
yesterday Morning” at 6:00 O’c-lock at
Ills home at CHURUBUSCO. following
illness of about three weeks.
Edgar George Stanislaus Gagnier
was a native of the town of Clinton
and was born at CHURUBUSCO on
July 21. 1879. a son of Albert and
Clorintha (Forand) Gagnier. He attended
the district schools of the
town and later followed studies at
Chateaugay High school. He later
married Miss Jeanette Patnode
of St Antonie P.Q
As a young man he took up Farm-
ing on a large scale and for the
past quarter century or more has
specialized in seed potatoes. In
recent years his crops were certified
as seed by the New York State
seed potatoes became internationally
famous, being sought for plantings
in various parts of the world.
One hundred and eighty-six acres
of fertile land on the ‘Gagnier farm
at CHURUBUSCO were devoted each
year to the growing Of certified
seed. In addition, Mr. Gagnier owned ‘
a 288-acre farm in the town of
Malone and an additional 200-acre
pasture and woodlot in the town
of Clinton.
Mr. Gagnier was active in town
politics, being a staunch Democrat
and from 1931 to 1936 represented
his town on the Clinton county
board of supervisors. A few years
ago he was Democratic candidate
for member of assembly.
Mr. Gagnier is survived by his
widow, four daughters and four
sons. They are:- Rev. Sister Mary
Edgar of the Nuns of the Holy
Cross, Columbus, Ohio.; Miss Albertine
Gagnier, a teacher in Riverhead,
L. I., Miss Evelyn Gagnier,
a teacher in Franklin county; Rev.
Sister Stanislaus Marie of the order
of Ursuline Nuns, Malone; Hubert
Gagnier, CHURUBUSCO; Girard Gagnier,
a medical student in Washington,
D. C; James Gagnier, an
attorney in Washington, D. C, and
Edgar Gagnier, CHURUBUSCO. Two
sisters and five brothers also survive.
They are:- Mrs. James Seymour
of Bellmont; Mrs. Clara Regnier,
Springfield, Mass.; Albert
and Samuel Gagnier of Springfield,
Mass.; Joseph Gagnier of CHURUBUSCO;
Edmund Gagnier (now Brother
Stanislaus of the Christian
Brothers) Lincolndale, N. Y, and
James Gagnier also of Lincolndale.
Mr. Gagnier was a communicant
of St. Philomena’s R. C. church,
CHURUBUSCO, from which the funeral
will be held, Saturday morning at
10 o’clock. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
