Edgar G. S. Gagnier
Chateaugay  Edgar G. S. Gagnier, 82, formerly of Chateaugay died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone, N.Y.

He was born in Churubusco, N.Y., on Sept. 7, 1919, the son of Edgar and Jeannette (Patneaude) Gagnier.

He was married to Bernice Aldrich on Feb. 16, 1945, in St. Patrick?s Church, Washington D.C. She predeceased him on Oct. 13, 2000.

Mr. Gagnier is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Michaele Gagnier of Chazy Lake, N.Y., Glen and Dorothy Gagnier of Croghan, N.Y., John and Cindy Gagnier of Valparaiso, Ind.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Daniel Waldron of Chateaugay Lake, N.Y., and Giesele LaClair of Cadyville, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, James Gagnier of Washington D.C.; three sisters, Albertine Griffith of Old Bethpage, Long Island, Evelyn Kissane of Chateaugay, N.Y., and Sister Regina Gagnier of Wilmington, Del.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Danielle Waldron; and two brothers, Hubert and Gerard Gagnier; and a sister, Annette Gagnier.

After graduating from Chateaugay High School in 1936, Mr. Gagnier attended Notre Dame and Cornell Universities then returned home to run “Gagnier Brothers Certified Seed Potatoes” with his brother, Hubert, for the next 40 years until his son, Jerry, joined him in 1980.

During that time, in addition to assisting his wife, Bernie, in raising five children and becoming a pilot, Ed ran for State Assemblyman and Senator, was an active member and director of the NYS Certified Seed Association, served on the board of directors of Clinton Community College, belonged to the Empire State Potato Club, the Council K of C in Chateaugay, Our Lady of Victory Assembly K of C, BPOE 1303 in Malone for 60 years and a charter and lifelong member of the Ellenburg Kiwanis Club.

Ed also enjoyed hunting with his friends at Johnson?s Hunting Club and other places.

Calling hours will be Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at the Chateaugay Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in St. Patrick?s Church, with Rev. Ray Moreau officiating. Cremation will take place at Whispering Maples Inc., Ellenburg Depot.
