CHAZY LAKE — Lawrence H. Seney, 83, of the Pup Hill Road, Saranac, and formerly of Chazy Lake, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Saranac, Feb. 19, 1925, the son of the late Loren and Lena (Hart) Seney. Larry graduated from Saranac in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married the former Velma Fournier (of Chazy Lake), Aug. 14, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Church in Dannemora. Velma predeceased him in 1978.
Lawrence was a logger and later worked at the Lyon Mountain Mines, then was an attendant at the Wingdale Facility. He was later a cook/meat cutter at both Clinton Correctional Facility and Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility. He retired in 1987 from Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility. He also operated his own home plumbing and heating business and worked construction in Texas and part time for the Marriott Corporation at Paul Smith’s College. He was a member of the Sorrell-Woodward American Legion Post 1623 in Lyon Mountain, the Knights of Columbus Council 2166 and Mountain Spring Club. He loved to cook and was famous for his baked beans. He loved Whitey Keese county music jamborees. He also was known for his favorite past time of bee keeping and honey processing. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his children, Leo Seney of Dannemora, Larry and wife Colleen Seney of Saranac, Christine and husband Dennis Guimond of Cadyville and Ed and wife Kay Seney of Saranac and Kay’s children; four grandchildren, Arlene and Matthew Seney, Billy Norcross and Shawn Guimond; brother Clifford Seney of Newcomb; sister Theresa LaVarnway of Speculator; brother-in-law Leonard Abare of Newcomb; brother-in-law, Rowland and his wife Vivian Fournier of Chazy Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by son Gilbert; daughters Mary and Caroline Seney; sisters, Rita Seney, Agnes Abare, Marie Williams and Cecile Bruce; brothers Clifton, Robert and twin brother Loren; companion Joyce Mann; and special nephew Carl Bruce.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, April 6, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held later in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dannemora. A reception will be held Monday, April 7, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Saranac American Legion Post 1618, 275 Wilson Road, Saranac.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Saranac Fire Department or the Saranac Rescue Squad.
