Donald H. Mitchell
DANNEMORA — Donald H. Mitchell,
59, of 79 Smith St., died Friday
morning at the CVPH Medical
Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born Sept 24,1918 the son
of Lillian (Light) Mitchell and the
late Harry J. Mitchell.
He was predeceased by a brother
Francis J. Mitchell in 1974.
He graduated from Dannemora
High School in 1937. He was a
veteran of the second world war serving
in the Pacific theatre from
March 17, 1943 to Dec. 10, 1945. He
retired from Dannemora State
Hospital in 1968 after 30 years of service.
He was present and past grand
knight of the Dannemora Knights of
Columbus Council 2166.
He was also present chairman of
the Knights of Columbus of the New
York State Youth Auxiliary and
past district deputy of the 87th
district of the New York State
Knights of Columbus.
He was a communicant at St.
Joseph’s Church and president of St.
Joseph’s Church Council in Dan-
nemora. He was a participant of active
boy scouting for 85 years and
was a recipient of the bronze
pelican, the highest Catholic award
to scouting. He was present commander
of the Adirondack Mountain
Memorial Post VFW 1514 Dannemora
and a member of the
American Legion Post 852 in Dannemora.
He was also a member of
the Siberian Rod and Gun Club in
He is survived by his wife of 37
years, the former Dora M. Miner;
four sons, Donald Mitchell of Dannemora,
John Mitchell of Plattsburgh,
Anthony Mitchell of Dannemora
and Patrick Mitchell of
Dannemora; two daughters, Mrs.
Winston (Mary Ann) Lawliss of
Dannemora and Miss. Tina Marie
Mitchell of Dannemora; 13 grandchildren;
his mother, Mrs. Lillian
H. Mitchell of Rouses Point; one
sister, Mrs. Gordon (Doris) Deyo of
Dannemora; several nieces and
Calling hours at the Dannemora
Knights of Columbus home will be
today and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7
to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 10
a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s
Cemetery in Dannemora.
Burial will follow in the parish
The Dannemora American Legion
Post 852 and the Adirondack Mountain
Memorial VFW 1514 will meet
at the Knights of Columbus Home
Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. for
ritualistic services.
The Dannemora Knights of Columbus
Council 2166 and the Catholic
Daughters Court Mother Admirable
592 will meet at the Knights of Columbus
Home Sunday at 8 p.m. for
recitation of the rosary.
In lieu of flowers contributions
can be made to the Donald H. Mitchell
Memorial Fire Department
Ambulance Fund.
