Ellenburg Depot businessman dies

ELLENBURG DEPOT -
Wilmer P. Nephew, 81, died
Thursday, Dec. 10, 1992, at his
residence.
He was born Oct. 12, 1911, in
Mooers Forks, the son of Albert
and Emma (Rock) Nephew.
For many years, he was owner
and operator of Nephews Ford
Farm Machinery Garage in
Ellenburg Depot, tie was a
former board member and
member of the Ellenburg
Kiwanis Club, founding member
of the Ellenburg Depot Fire
Department, and member of
Mount Herman Masonic Lodge
Free and Accepted Masons. He
was a member of McCavanaugh
Pond Hunting Club Inc., and the
Gulf View Club. He was a
member of Ellenburg Depot
Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Nina Colgan; three
daughters, Mrs. Kenneth
(Sharon) Lafave of Ellenburg
Depot, Mrs. Patrick (Colleen)
Bernard of Coopersville, and
Deanna Pratt of Ellenburg
Depot; three brothers, Carl
Nephew of Ellenburg Depot,
Harold Nephew of Mineville and
Richard Nephew of Mooers
Forks; six sisters, Lillian Robinson
of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Henry
(Bertha) Provost of Port Henry,
Mrs. Al (Pearl) Vout of Massena,
Mrs. Charles (Eva) Drown of
Mooers, Stella Sheehy of Lake
George and Mrs. Richard (Ruby)
Goodell of Ellenburg Center; and
seven grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at
the E.F. Drown Funeral Service
in Ellenburg Depot from 7 to 9
p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service
will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in
Ellenburg Depot Wesleyan

REEKMANTOWN - Ernest J,
Nephew, 46. of Beekmantown died
unexpectedly of an apparent heart
attack Thursday morning while
at work as a mechanic at Bailey
Motors in Dannemora,
Results of an autopsy performed
at Physicians Hospital
were not disclosed Thursday
night. ;
Mr. Nephew was born on July
22, 1916 in Mooers Forks, son of
Mrs Emma Rock Nephew and
the late Albert Nephew.
He is survived by his widow
Mrs. Dora Duffina Nephew, Sour
daughters, Mrs. Roger (Clara)
King of Wmgdnle, Mrs, Errol
(Lorraine) Bracey of Plattsnurgh,
Mrs. Edward (Barbara) Kowulsk
of Revena and Miss Rachel]
Nephew of Ellenburg Depot; one

9:30 a.m., Saturday at St Edmund’s
Church in Ellenburg.
Burial will be in St, Ann’s parish
cemetery.
The body is at the residence of
Mr. Nephew’s sister, Mrs. Begore.

Monday morning, were held
Thursday at St. Joseph’s Church
in West Chazy.

tor, celebrated the Solemn Rej
quiem High Mass.
Bearers were Leonard LaValley
Ernest LaValley. Roger Nephew,
Robert Nephew, Homer Burdo and
Arthur Garrand.
Burial was in the parish cemetery,
where the Rev. Mr White
recited prayers at the grave

PLATTSBURGH - Rita D.
Miller, 57, of the Northway Trailer
Court on Beekmantown Road, died
Friday at the CVPH Medical Center
in Piattsburgh.
She was born in Mooers Forks
Jan. 12, 1924, daughter of Benjamin
and Flanda (Peete) Nephew. She
was the widow of Francis Miller
who died in 1978.
Mrs. Miller was a member of St.
Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. She
worked as a cafeteria staff member
at the Beekmantown Central School
for 13 years until her retirement,
due to illness, in 1979.
Survivors include her sons,
Gerald of Piattsburgh and Francis
of Mooers; three daughters, Mrs.
Gabrielle Lucia of Piattsburgh,
Mrs. Donald (Susan) Mullen of Buffalo,
and Mrs. John (Shirley) Hanon
of West Chazy; two brothers,
Robert Nephew of West Chazy and
Arthur Nephew of Mooers; six
sisters, Mrs. Nellie Burdo of Ellenburg
Depot; Mrs. Margaret
LaValley and Mrs. Amos (Marie)
LaValley of Beekmantown, Mrs.
Walter (Bertha) Trombley of Allentown,
Pa., Mrs. Theresa Burdeau of
Mooers Forks, and Mrs. Harold
(Irene) McComb of Cannon Corners;
10 grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.

and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral
Home. A funeral will be held Monday
at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church
in West Chazy followed by burial in
the parish cemetery.

57, of Mooers died Wednesday, Feb.
15, 1984, at the CVPH Medical
Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born April 27, 1926, in
Altona, the son of Benjamin and
Flanda (Peete) Nephew.
He was a member of Local 186.
Survivors include his wife, the
former June Pelkey, who he married
in 1950; five sons, Rodney of

Garrand, 59, passed away at the
CVPH Medical Center Saturday.
She was born in Mooers Forks
June 7, 1918, the daughter of Benjamin
Nephew and Philomeme
Peat.
She was the wife of the late Alex
Garrand.
She is survived by four daughters,

Mrs. Lyle Pat Baillargeon of Rouses
Point; eight sons, Arthur of New

Ronald and Robert, all from
Mooers, Maurice of Fittsburgh,
Mass, and Gary of Altona; three
brothers, Ben Nephew of of Chazy,
Robert Nephew of West Chazy, and
Arthur Nephew of Mooers; even
sisters Mrs. Pete Bordo of Altona,
Mrs. Amos LaValley and Mrs.
Margaret LaValley, both of
Beekmantown, Mrs. Francis Miller

Funeral services will be conducted
today at 10 a.m. at St.
Joseph’s Church here. Calling hours
will be held before services at the
Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s
Cemetery vault to await spring
burial.

Thomas J. Nephew

WEST CHAZY � Thomas J. Nephew, 55, of Stratton Hill Road, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Plattsburgh on Dec. 6, 1948, the son of Alex and Irene (LaValley) Nephew.

Mr. Nephew was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy.

He married Patricia Matott on Sept. 26, 1970, at St. Joseph’s Church.

Thomas worked for Imperial Paper from 1972 until their closing in 1998. He then worked for Schoenbek from 1999 until present.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Nephew of West Chazy; one daughter, Laurie LaValley and her husband Heath of West Chazy; one son, Jamie Nephew and his wife Nicole of West Chazy; three grandchildren, Quiana, Jadyn and Trevor; his mother, Irene Nephew of Plattsburgh; two brothers, Jerry Nephew and his wife Donna of Plattsburgh and David Nephew and his wife Mary of Utica, N.Y.; three sisters, Joanne Mangum and her husband Jerry of Plattsburgh, Betty King of Plattsburgh and Diane Winters and her husband John of Chazy; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Nephew of Plattsburgh. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Alex Nephew; and two brothers, Donald Nephew and Clarence Nephew.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in West Chazy. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Marie V. LaValley
PLATTSBURGH — Marie V. LaValley, 84, of 6681 Route 22 died Thursday, Ma rch 9, 2000, at the CVPH Medical Center. Marie was born in Mooers Forks o n October 14, 1915, the daughter of Benjamin Nephew, Sr. and Flanda P eetes .

She married Amos J. LaValley on October 7, 1940, at St. Joseph’s Church i n West Chazy. Amos died May 3, 1999. Mrs. LaValley was a cafeteria work er at the Clinton County Nursing Home in East Beekmantown and then in t he Beekmantown Central District for many years until retiring in 1978. S he also helped her husband run the family farm.

Survivors include three sons, Richard LaValley and his wife, Agnes and E rnest LaValley and his wife, Catherine both of Beekmantown and Donald L aValley and his wife, Huguette of Mt. Juliet, Tenn; one brother, Robert N ephew and his wife, Helena of W. Chazy; five sisters, Nellie Burdo, Mar garet LaValley and Bertha Trombley all of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Harold (Ire ne) McComb and Mrs. Robert (Theresa) LaRochelle both of Mooers Forks; n ine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; 16 s tepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Three brothers, A rthur Nephew, Alex Nephew and Benjamin Nephew, Jr. and two sisters, Rit a Miller, and Rose Garrand all died earlier.

“Ben” Nephew, 69, of Route 1 died
Wednesday at the Mary Fletcher
Unit of the Medical Center Hospital
of Vermont in Burlington.
He was born May 6, 1910 in
Mooers Forks, the son of Benjamin
A. and Flanda (Peete) Nephew.
He owned and operated a dairy
farm in West Chazy from 1945 until
1967 and was a carpenter until he
retired in 1978. He was also a
member of St. Joseph’s Church.
He leaves his wife. Helen
LaValley Nephew; five sons, Edward
Nephew of New Haven, Conn.,
Bernard, Lawrence and Roger
Nephew, all of West Chazy, and
Steven Nephew of Chazy Lake;
three daughters, Mrs. Benjamin
