| PLATTSBURGH — Francis B. “Red” LaPorte Sr., 66, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the CVPH Medical Center with his sister, Catherine LaVarnway and his niece, Elaine LaVarnway by his side. He was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 25, 1941, the son of Leo and Mary E. (Blanchard) LaPorte Sr. Mr. LaPorte was a member of St. John’s Church. Francis worked for the Town of Plattsburgh and Trudeau Trucking. He was also self employed providing lawn care and yard work for many area families. He loved hunting, fishing, auctions, bingo and especially his cats. Survivors include five stepsons, William Dubuque Jr., Steve Dubuque, Joseph Dubuque, George Dubuque and Robert Dubuque; one stepdaughter, Carol Lashway; two brothers, Leo “Pumkin” LaPorte and Ronnie Porter; two sisters, Catherine LaVarnway and her husband, Frank, and Bernice Clay; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Goldie R. (LeClair) LaPort in 1996; one brother, Robert LaPorte; and one sister, Evelyn “Bunnie” Barber. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William G. Reamer officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona. |
